The Light Gap Gerardo Gutiérrez Set Out to Close
How one photographer turned twenty years of studying light into a new kind of home wellness device.
Gerardo Gutiérrez spent two decades chasing light through a camera lens. He knew how it fell across a face, how it shaped a mood, how it changed everything it touched. Yet in 2020, at a difficult point in his life, he discovered something the studio had never taught him: the same light he had framed as art might also be a signal his own body had been missing.
From a Personal Breaking Point to a New Obsession
Guti, as friends call him, had hit a wall, low energy, a difficult personal season, and a search for something simpler. So he returned to an instinct as old as humanity itself: stepping outside into the unfiltered morning sun.
Within days, he noticed a shift in how he felt. Within three months, his daily routine looked different. The change was personal, not promotional, and it sent him down a path he never expected to walk. (This reflects one individual’s personal experience; results and experiences vary from person to person.)
That path led to research. Guti spent the next three years reading more than 7,000 peer-reviewed studies about how light interacts with the human body. He was not building a product yet, he was trying to understand what had happened to him. Eventually, he translated what he learned into a book, Rewired by Light, a protocol-based guide designed to make dense science accessible to ordinary people.
The Wavelength Almost Everyone Is Missing
Here is the gap Guti kept returning to, one the wellness industry rarely discusses. Millions of people have invested in red light therapy panels to support their energy and recovery routines. Those panels can be wonderful. Yet nearly all of them deliver red and near-infrared light only, leaving out UVB entirely.
Why does that matter? UVB is the wavelength linked to the body’s natural vitamin D synthesis pathway, the same pathway activated by real sunlight. Modern life, with its indoor days and glass-filtered windows, has quietly reduced most people’s exposure to that signal. (This is general scientific and educational context; Mitolux is not intended to diagnose, treat, or address any deficiency.)
Guti puts it simply: “I didn’t build Mitolux to sell a lamp. I built it because I saw how my own body, and later, my dog’s, responded to light in ways I hadn’t expected. That curiosity turned into biology.”
The dog he mentions is Weenie, his eleven-year-old companion. After a period of near-infrared light exposure, Weenie was moving with more spark than the family had seen in a while, one more moment that made the science feel personal rather than theoretical. (Individual and anecdotal experience; not a substitute for veterinary care.)
A Different Category, Not a Better Lamp
The result of all that study is the BTS2, and Mitolux is quick to note it isn’t a lamp upgrade, it’s a different category of device.
The BTS2 is the only portable, home-use LED wellness device that combines UVB at 295nm, red at 630nm, and near-infrared in the 810–940nm range within a single panel. It’s designed for indoor daily use, giving the body a spectrum closer to what natural daylight provides. Mitolux frames this as supporting the body’s own natural wellness routine, individual experiences will vary.
The engineering matters too. Rather than relying on older fluorescent tubes, the BTS2 uses narrowband 295nm UVB LEDs, offering a longer-lasting, mercury-free design built for a shelf in your home rather than a clinic. (Technical specifications should be confirmed against current internal engineering documentation before publication.)
Mitolux carries the same philosophy into its second product, the Solar X, a 10-wavelength, 11-mode full solar spectrum device now in pre-launch. Where the BTS2 delivers a focused, targeted spectrum, the Solar X reflects the broader palette of the sun itself.
Accessible by Design
Guti was determined that this technology shouldn’t sit behind a luxury price tag. The closest multi-wavelength competitor on the market runs around $3,300. The BTS2 offers a comparable multi-wavelength architecture at $799, with financing available from $66 per month and a 30-day risk-free guarantee.
That decision reflects the mission at the center of the company: helping people reconnect with a light signal that modern indoor life has reduced. Pricing it out of reach would have contradicted the entire point.
Endorsed by the People Who Study This for a Living
Mitolux has earned attention from voices who spend their careers examining human performance and wellness, including Thomas DeLauer, a nutrition coach who has worked with athletes across the MLB, NFL, and NHL; Tim Gray, a leading UK biohacker; Jean Fallacara, CEO of Biohacker Magazine; and Lucas Aoun, one of Australia’s most recognized voices in the field.
Recognition has followed. In 2026, Mitolux received the Forttuna Global Excellence Award in the Innovative Wellness Product of the Year category, and the company has also been featured by Evergreen Awards, TodayUS.com, and BizWeekly.com.
Why the Story Resonates
Mitolux doesn’t ask you to abandon anything you already do for your wellbeing. It simply points to a piece of the picture that’s often left out of the conversation, the one wavelength most closely tied to natural daylight. Guti built a device to close that gap and make it practical for daily life at home.
The company’s tone reflects its founder: scientific but warm, more interested in helping you understand than in rushing you to buy.
If you’ve ever felt better after a morning outdoors and wondered why, Mitolux offers a place to explore that question. Visit the website to learn how the BTS2 works, read Rewired by Light, and see whether reconnecting with a broader range of daily light belongs in your routine.
